On Thursday 21 April we played our last home match of the season. Our opponent was Astrea, against whom we had to play a few weeks ago in Dordrecht. That match ended in a tie and the team was only one place above us in the rankings, so we knew we had to work hard to win tonight!
Astrea started the service in the first set. We managed to get that service to our side after two points and from there we showed them our best side: hard attacks and great blocks! Because of this, we got quite a lot of points, but Astrea did not make it easy for us. They were also playing very well and got closer and closer. In the end, G6 was just a little bit better and we won the first set with 25-17.
After winning the first set, we went into the second one with confidence. We found out where the opponent’s weaker points were and tried to use those to our advantage. We got a strong lead, but then out of nowhere we stopped playing as well as we did before. Astrea used this to their advantage and caught up on us. Fortunately, we got back in time and that meant the second set was also ours: 25-18.
Unfortunately, we had a hard time in the third set. Astrea used two new players who filled in the weak spots and were very good players. It just didn’t work well for us: the balls were flying everywhere and we couldn’t get many of our attacks over the net. And the end of the set we could catch up a little, but it was too late: Astrea won the set with 16-25.
We really wanted to win this match and wouldn’t be content with another tie, so we knew we had to give everything we had in the final set. Astrea seemed to have the same idea, because again they did not make it easy for us to get to those 25 points. After a very thrilling set, the win was for Erasmus Volley with a score of 25-23.
So, we won the match with 3-1! We tried our very best and were very content with the outcome. We played our last home match, so we only have two more away matches to try to get higher in the rankings!
